The Prophet's Mosque at Medina was founded in 622, in the year of the migration from Mecca, and grew from Muhammad's own house. His tomb lies beneath the green dome, with those of the first two caliphs Abu Bakr and Umar beside it. It is the second holiest site in Islam and the second largest mosque in the world, and is run by the same General Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques.
