About

The Diocese of Miami was established in 1958 and elevated to an archdiocese in 1968 by Pope Paul VI. Its mother church is the Cathedral of Saint Mary, originally dedicated as a parish church in 1939 and designated the cathedral upon the diocese's creation. The archdiocese grew substantially after 1959 with the arrival of Cuban exiles and today serves Catholic parishes, schools, and two seminaries across South Florida.
