The Diocese of St. Louis was established in 1826 and elevated to an archdiocese in 1847, the first in the Mississippi Valley. Its mother church, the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis, was built between 1907 and 1914 and holds one of the largest mosaic collections in the world. The archdiocese serves Catholic parishes and institutions across the greater St. Louis region.
