The Basilica of Bom Jesus at Old Goa was consecrated in May 1605 and was built by the Jesuits in the Portuguese territory. It holds the body of Francis Xavier, which is brought down for public veneration about once every ten years. The church is part of the churches and convents of Goa inscribed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, and remains in use for worship.
