The Buddhist Association of China was founded in May 1953 and has its offices at Guangji Temple in Xicheng, Beijing. It is the state recognised body for Buddhism in the People's Republic, registering clergy and temples and carrying government regulation to Buddhist communities. Guangji Temple itself is a working monastery with daily services as well as the association's seat.
