The Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine is the mother church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of St. Augustine and the seat of the oldest parish in the continental United States, founded in 1565. The present building was completed in 1797 during the Spanish colonial period and rebuilt after an 1887 fire. Pope Paul VI designated it a minor basilica in 1976.
