About

First AME Church of Los Angeles (FAME), founded in 1872, is the oldest church established by Black Americans in Los Angeles. Under Rev. Cecil "Chip" Murray, who led the congregation from 1977 to 2004, it grew into a major civic and spiritual institution active in the aftermath of the 1992 Los Angeles uprising. The church operates FAME Renaissance, a community development corporation, alongside its worship and outreach ministries.
