The Holy Trinity Cathedral at Arat Kilo was completed in 1942 to mark the end of the Italian occupation, and is the second most senior church of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church after Our Lady Mary of Zion at Axum. Emperor Haile Selassie and Empress Menen Asfaw are buried in the north transept, and patriarchs, members of the imperial family and other notable Ethiopians lie in the crypt and churchyard.
