Idris Mosque, in the Northgate neighborhood of Seattle, was established in 1981 with funding from the late Sheikh Abdul Kadir Idriss of Saudi Arabia and is described as the first mosque west of the Mississippi River built in an Arabesque architectural style. The mosque states a mission of providing educational opportunities about Islam for Muslims and non-Muslims alike and welcomes visitors "regardless of creed, ethnicity, race, culture, background." It offers daily prayers, religious education, and community outreach programs.
