The Mandaean Association of Michigan serves the Mandaean community of the Detroit metropolitan area, which formed largely through resettlement from Iraq. Mandaeism is an ancient Gnostic religion that reveres John the Baptist and requires flowing water for its central rite, the repeated baptism known as masbuta, so a congregation outside the homelands has to make its own provision for that. The association is a point of contact for religious life, language teaching and community support in Warren and the surrounding suburbs.
