New Birth Missionary Baptist Church began in 1939 as Travelers Rest Baptist Church in Scottdale, Georgia, relocating to DeKalb County and adopting its current name in 1984. Under Bishop Eddie L. Long, pastor from 1987 to 2017, the congregation grew from roughly 300 to more than 25,000 members. Dr. Jamal Harrison Bryant has served as senior pastor since 2018, continuing the church's worship and community-outreach ministries in Stonecrest.
