The University of Notre Dame is a major Roman Catholic research university founded in 1842 by Rev. Edward Sorin, C.S.C., and the Congregation of Holy Cross, in what is now Notre Dame, Indiana. Its Catholic identity remains central to its mission, expressed through the Basilica of the Sacred Heart and numerous campus spiritual programs. The university offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs across a wide range of disciplines, including theology.
