The first value states the minimal case: Salafism is a current within Sunni Islam calling for a return to the practice of the first generations, a description naming no separation at all. The second complicates it: whether it stands inside or outside the four schools of law is disputed within the movement itself, since Salafis go directly to Quran and hadith rather than following one of the four established schools, either a fifth position among equals or a rejection of the framework those schools share. The third states the atlas's own resting position: no separation as a body, meaning Salafism has not constituted itself as a distinct institutional body the way a denomination or a legal school has.
