Doreen Virtue's Earliest Surviving Angel Deck

Archangel Oracle Cards is a forty five card deck Doreen Virtue created for Hay House, published in 2004, and it is one of the earliest entries in the long catalogue of angel themed oracle decks she produced before her public break from that work in 2017. Its organizing system keys each of the forty five cards to one of fifteen archangels, a smaller and more tightly defined set than the wide, loosely bounded cast of ascended masters and goddesses Virtue would draw on in decks published in the surrounding years, Ascended Masters Oracle Cards in 2007 and Goddess Guidance Oracle Cards the same year as this deck. The deck reads upright only, with no reversed meanings, a convention shared across Virtue's oracle catalogue.

Keying a deck to a fixed set of fifteen named archangels rather than a single addressed prayer, a broad set of ascended masters or a rotating cast of saints, as her later Saints and Angels deck would, made Archangel Oracle Cards one of the more narrowly scoped decks in Virtue's early catalogue. That narrower structure sits alongside the wider, more eclectic decks she published across the following years, and together they illustrate how a single prolific creator working within the oracle genre, which sets no fixed card count or organizing system the way tarot does, can vary how tightly bounded each deck's central cast is from one title to the next.
