The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn ran on documents circulated in manuscript to members who had reached the grade entitled to receive them, and this was one of the Second Order papers, copied out by hand and returned or destroyed on departure. It was written to be studied alongside instruction, not read cold, and it assumes the reader already has the Order's Tree of Life material. That distribution model is why the document's history is a history of leaks. The Order fractured in the years around 1900, its papers dispersed among successor groups, and the material became publicly available when Israel Regardie published the Order's corpus in the 1930s, an act his contemporaries regarded as a breach of obligation and which he defended as necessary to preserve the system from disappearing with its holders. Everything since has depended on that decision. Without it Book T would be known from scattered references and the surviving papers of a few members, and the tarot scheme it contains would have reached the twentieth century only through the decks that used it, with its reasoning invisible. The atlas records the paper's status as an internal instruction, because the way it was meant to be read is part of what it is.Cross-Tradition ConnectionsArticle OnBook T (The Tarot), Esoteric Texts Well-attested Source Divinity Atlas Long-Form Articles, First Editiontier 1SourcesDivinity Atlas Long-Form Articles, First Editiontier 1Comments (0)No comments yet.
