A Shared Agency Answering to Forty-One Churches at Once

This article records tradition as it has been passed down and reported. Its sources are not yet part of the atlas's verified catalogue.

Christian Aid's Annual Report and Accounts for 2024/25, independently audited by HaysMac LLP with an unqualified opinion, record total income of 71.1 million pounds sterling against total expenditure of 77.0 million pounds sterling for the year ended 31 March 2025, a shortfall of just under 6 million pounds sterling that the organization covered by drawing on reserves built up in earlier years rather than by cutting programmes to match income.

The same statement discloses what kind of body is running that budget: Christian Aid represents 41 sponsoring churches across denominations in Britain and Ireland, including the Church of England, an interdenominational structure rather than the agency of a single tradition. A shared agency answering to 41 separate church bodies does not set its income by the fundraising decisions of one denomination alone, and a deficit year of this kind is one signal of what that arrangement costs in practice: without one governing church to make up a shortfall by fiat, the organization's own reserves, accumulated for exactly this purpose, are what absorbs the difference between what forty-one churches' combined giving raised and what the year's work required.
