A Church-by-Church Model, Counted in Congregations

Compassion International's own 2025 Annual Impact Report, covering the fiscal year ended 30 June 2025, states that more than 2.4 million children were known, loved and protected through partnerships with over 9,263 local churches across 29 program countries, with total revenues of 1.4 billion US dollars for the year. What stands out in that count is not only the number of children but the number of churches: more than nine thousand distinct local congregations, each independently embedded in its own community, functioning as the organization's actual delivery mechanism rather than as a marketing partner layered on top of a Compassion-run program.

That is a structurally different model from an organization that builds and staffs its own field offices. A sponsored child's relationship runs through a specific local church, which means the quality and character of what a sponsorship delivers depends in real part on that individual congregation's own capacity and involvement, not solely on policy set centrally in Colorado Springs. The 9,263-church figure is, in that sense, less a supporting statistic than a description of how the model actually works: not one organization serving 2.4 million children, but thousands of churches each serving the children in their own community, coordinated and funded through one shared organization.
