A Filing That Reveals a Partnership, Not a Field Operation

This article records tradition as it has been passed down and reported. Its sources are not yet part of the atlas's verified catalogue.

Episcopal Relief and Development's own IRS Form 990 filing for the fiscal year ended 31 December 2024 reports total revenue of 29,802,695 US dollars against total expenses of 32,263,612 US dollars, a shortfall of roughly 2.5 million dollars, with contributions accounting for 92.9 percent of revenue at 27,681,831 US dollars.

That heavy reliance on contributions, rather than programme fees, investment income or government grants, is consistent with an organization whose stated working method is partnership: rather than employing large field staffs of its own in every country it serves, Episcopal Relief and Development channels donor contributions through the Anglican Communion's existing network of dioceses and local partner organizations already present in the communities it works with. A body funded this way absorbs a deficit year differently than one funded by diversified institutional grants or service contracts, since the shortfall has to be made up from the same donor base that supplies nearly all of its income in the first place, and the filing's own figures show that base carrying the organization's full weight almost without exception. The same reliance also explains why the organization has never needed to build the large in-country staff a direct operator would require: its own filing describes a funding stream built to pass through partners already on the ground, not to run parallel programmes of its own.
