Vishuddha and the Modern Correspondence

Vishuddha, the Throat chakra, is described in the classical Sanskrit tantric sources through its own seed syllable and symbolism, without reference to Western musical pitch. Its pairing with the note G in the modern chakra-tone system continues the same ascending scale-to-chakra mapping used throughout these entries, the fifth scale degree matched to the fifth chakra, a product of twentieth century Theosophical and New Age writing rather than of the older Sanskrit tradition.

Vishuddha is associated in the modern correspondence literature with communication, voice and self-expression, and some contemporary writers note that G sits a perfect fifth above the tonic C, the interval that (after the octave itself) is generally considered the most consonant and stable relationship in Western tonal harmony, offering this as a poetic reinforcement of the Throat chakra's association with clear, resonant expression; as with similar interpretive flourishes elsewhere in this correspondence system, this reasoning was layered on after the pairing was already fixed rather than having produced it.
