The Woman Who Wrote the Crystal Bible

Judy Hall built one of the most recognized bibliographies in contemporary crystal and mind body spirit publishing across more than forty five years of work as an astrologer, self described psychic, karmic astrologer and past life therapist. She held a Bachelor of Education in religious studies and a masters degree in cultural astronomy and astrology, and ran creative writing, crystal and past life workshops from her home in Dorset, England.

Her defining work, The Crystal Bible, catalogues hundreds of stones with their claimed metaphysical properties and has sold more than a million copies since its first volume appeared, later expanding into a three volume series alongside more than forty other titles on crystals, astrology and reincarnation, translated into sixteen languages. The Watkins Review, a publishing trade list that tracks influence in spirituality and wellness publishing, named her among its hundred most spiritually influential living people on four separate occasions, and she received the Kindred Spirit magazine personality award in 2014.

Hall's work sits squarely within a belief system, crystal healing, that has no basis in mainstream medical or geological science and makes no claim to double blind testing; her books present the properties of stones as received tradition and personal practice rather than clinical fact, and readers and reviewers have divided over whether to read that framing as metaphorical, therapeutic or literal. Whatever the reception, her volume of output and the commercial reach of The Crystal Bible made her one of the most widely read authors in the genre.
