The Founder of the World's First Witchcraft Magazine

Lucy Cavendish grew up in Sydney, Australia, and has since lived in Paris, London and the United States, describing childhood experiences of what she calls extra sensory perception that conventional schooling and mainstream religion offered her no framework to understand.

In 1992 she founded Witchcraft magazine, which she and her publishers describe as the first magazine of its kind in the world, and she went on to become a founding member of the Goddess Association in Australia. She has since published numerous books through Rockpool Publishing and other houses, including Witches and Wizards, Spellbound, The Lost Lands and a trilogy of Witchy Magic, Faery Magic and Mermaid Magic co-written with Serene Conneeley, alongside multiple oracle and tarot decks.

She appears regularly on Australian television and radio to discuss witchcraft and magical practice, and lives in Sydney with her daughter. Cavendish's public identity rests on a self described practice of witchcraft and magic that sits outside mainstream religious and scientific frameworks; the skeptic reference site RationalWiki has profiled her critically alongside other new age authors, treating her claims of magical ability as unverified rather than demonstrated. Her own books and public appearances present witchcraft as a lived spiritual and creative practice rather than a claim requiring outside proof, and her three decade publishing career and magazine founding are documented independently of whether her specific magical claims are accepted.
