The Sacral corresponds in position to the second of the classical seven chakras counting upward, and it carries more structural weight in Human Design than any other centre.
What the system builds on it
Whether this centre comes out defined or open in a calculated chart is the single question that separates the largest group of types from the rest. The typology is not evenly balanced across the nine centres: this one does a disproportionate share of the work, and a reader who understands what the system does with this centre understands most of how the classification operates.
That structural role is Human Design's own. The classical chakra scheme has no typology of persons at all and therefore nothing corresponding to it.
The arithmetic of the borrowing
The classical scheme most often cited in modern Western usage has seven centres; the bodygraph has nine. The G or Identity centre and the Spleen have no classical counterpart. The remaining seven correspond by position, though not always by function.
A caution
The sevenfold scheme is one arrangement among several described in Indian tantric traditions, and the version in wide Western circulation is a popular settlement rather than a single original.
Human Design was published by Ra Uru Hu in 1987, and the atlas records it as a contemporary system rather than as inherited material.
