Counting from Aries's start, this is the fourth degree, placing it in the sign's first decan. Its decan is ruled by Mars, Aries's own planet, reinforcing rather than complicating the sign's usual character. The narrower term division belongs to Jupiter, a still finer layer of rulership laid across the sign and decan. Aries opens the zodiac with unmediated initiative, action taken before it has been talked over or shaped by circumstance. There is an independent image for this degree from 1898, decades before the Sabian set existed. Charubel's book puts it this way: a man covered with decorations and ornaments of the most gorgeous kinds. He is standing in the midst of a garden abounding with fruit trees, flowers, and fountains.
