The Coronation Regalia of the United Kingdom, commonly called the Crown Jewels, includes St Edward's Crown, the Sovereign's Orb and Sceptres and the Ampulla and Anointing Spoon, all used in the coronation rite administered by the Archbishop of Canterbury inside Westminster Abbey. The rite itself is a religious sacrament of the Church of England, centered on the anointing of the monarch with holy oil before the crowning, so the regalia function as sacred objects of state in the fullest sense, comparable to Japan's imperial regalia and Rome's Ancilia as objects whose religious legitimacy is inseparable from their use.
