About

The Cathedral of All Souls is the seat of the Episcopal Diocese of Western North Carolina, a designation it received in 1995. Built in 1896 as George Vanderbilt's parish church for Biltmore Village, it was designed by Richard Morris Hunt and is the only one of Hunt's six churches still standing. Hurricane Helene's floodwaters submerged the building for the first time in its history in September 2024, and the cathedral is undergoing a multi-year restoration, worshipping temporarily at a nearby parish while the work continues.
