The Choral Synagogue on Bolshoy Spasoglinishchevsky Lane opened in 1906 after decades of official obstruction, and is the oldest working synagogue in Moscow. It is an Orthodox congregation and remained in use through the Soviet period, when it was one of very few Jewish buildings in the city allowed to function. It was attacked in 2006 and has kept security arrangements since.
