Innaecheon, man is heaven, is Cheondoism's central teaching, condensed by the movement's third leader Son Byong-hui from the founder Choe Je-u's teaching that the Lord of Heaven is borne within every person. Its practical form was drawn out earlier by the second leader Choe Si-hyeong, who taught that a child being struck is heaven being struck, and it led the movement to treat the caste distinctions of the late Joseon order as false.

Origins
Historical OriginSourced to the subject's own accountThe movement had been renamed Cheondoism from its earlier name Donghak in 1905, and Innaecheon's teaching that heaven is borne within every person gave the reorganized faith the standing to help drive the March First Movement of 1919 against Japanese colonial rule: Son Byong-hui, the leader who had condensed the doctrine into its familiar phrase, was one of the thirty three national representatives who signed Korea's Declaration of Independence that year. 1 Cross-Tradition Connections
