Republika Srpska is the Bosnian Serb political entity proclaimed in 1992 during the breakup of Yugoslavia. Its army, the Army of Republika Srpska under General Ratko Mladic, carried out the July 1995 killings at Srebrenica that international tribunals have found to constitute genocide. Since the 1995 Dayton Agreement, Republika Srpska has continued as one of Bosnia and Herzegovina's two constituent political entities.

State Religion
None established by law; the Dayton constitutional framework leaves Bosnia and Herzegovina and its entities without an official religion, though the Serbian Orthodox Church holds a position of particular prominence among Republika Srpska's Bosnian Serb population. 1
Religious Policy
The wartime campaign against the entity's Bosniak Muslim and Croat Catholic populations, including the destruction of mosques and churches, culminated in the July 1995 killing of more than 8,000 Bosniak Muslim men and boys at Srebrenica, found by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia to constitute genocide. 1
