Hamaspathmaidyem is the last and most solemn of the six gahambars, held at the close of the Zoroastrian year and dedicated to the Fravashis, the guardian spirits of the dead, whose return to their family homes is welcomed with prayer, food offerings and remembrance in a manner comparable to an all souls observance in other traditions, immediately preceding the Nowruz new year.
