A body of nearly five hundred items of Taoist ritual music preserved in Macao, drawn from both the Lingnan Zhengyi and Quanzhen Taoist schools, whose otherwise separate repertoires have coexisted there for around two hundred years into a locally distinct blend rarely heard in Taoist communities elsewhere. The music is performed at Taoist ceremonies, including funerals, wedding banquets and the birthdays of Taoist gods. Its lineage in Macao traces to Taoist priests of the Zhengyi School who relocated from Guangdong in the early twentieth century, with performances at the Kiang Wu Hospital in 1923 and 1933 introducing the Quanzhen School's ritual music to the territory. The Macao SAR Government inscribed it into the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Macao on 8 May 2009, and the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China announced it as national Intangible Cultural Heritage on 11 June 2011.
