A performance recording of Shabad Kirtan, devotional singing of Gurbani, in the rababi style, sung to the rabab by Bhai Ghulam Mohammad Chand, whose family's performance lineage runs back to Bhai Mardana, the Muslim companion who accompanied Guru Nanak and received the title "Bhai" from him. Chand's own line descends from rababis who performed in the courts of Guru Tegh Bahadur and Guru Gobind Singh, and his father and uncle were the last rababis to sing at the Golden Temple before Partition forced the family to Lahore in 1947. Released by Punjabi University, Patiala's Gurmat Sangeet Chair as one of its audio-visual publications documenting and promoting the rababi tradition of Sikh sacred music worldwide.
