The Asatru Folk Assembly (AFA) is an international Heathen organization based in the United States, founded by Stephen A. McNallen in 1994 after he had closed his earlier Asatru Free Assembly in 1986. Once headquartered in Grass Valley, California, with chapters worldwide, the AFA practices a form of Heathenry centred on the deities of Old Norse religion and is recognized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit religious organization. The AFA promotes a form of Heathenry it calls "folkish", holding that the religion is suitable only for white people of Germanic ancestry; its views on race have been labelled racist or white supremacist by some observers, and its critics include the Southern Poverty Law Center, the Anti-Defamation League and other Heathen groups such as The Troth.
