A French Gothic ivory panel, dated 1330, from a casket carved with scenes drawn from courtly romances such as the Roman de la Rose and the poems of Chretien de Troyes. This side panel shows Sir Gawain and the Lion alongside Lancelot crossing the sword bridge, a well known episode of the Lancelot romance in which he crosses a blade laid across a river to reach Guinevere's captor. Held today by the Cleveland Museum of Art.
