A folio from the Shahnama of Shah Tahmasp, the Persian Book of Kings, painted in Tabriz circa 1525 to 1530 and attributed to the painter 'Abd al-'Aziz under the workshop director Aqa Mirak. The scene shows Gushtasp, the future Zoroastrian king Vishtaspa, proving his skill at archery before the caesar of Rome during his years away from Iran. Held today by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, part of the Houghton Shahnama gift of 1970.
