Grimnismal ("the Sayings of Grimnir") is spoken by Odin, travelling in disguise as Grimnir, tortured between two fires by a king he has come to test after being fed and comforted only by the king's young son. Odin delivers a long cosmological monologue naming the halls of the gods, the geography of the nine worlds and the tree Yggdrasil, and lists twelve valkyries by name, before revealing his true identity and pronouncing the king's doom.
