A Revelation of Love

A Revelation of Love is Marion Glasscoe's scholarly critical edition of Julian of Norwich's Long Text, the fuller of her two surviving accounts of the visions she experienced in 1373, published in the University of Exeter Press's Exeter Medieval Texts and Studies series. Glasscoe is a recognized medieval textual scholar and the edition is a standard academic reference for Julian's Middle English text. Its authority rests on that critical editorial apparatus, establishing the text from the surviving manuscripts with scholarly care, rather than a modernized paraphrase. Its limit is the ordinary one for any primary mystical text, it presents Julian's own account of her visions and theology, so a claim about the historical reception or theological significance of her work within wider medieval mysticism needs a secondary scholarly study alongside this edition of the primary text itself.
