Pope Pius XII's address to the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, 22 November 1951, published in the Acta Apostolicae Sedis, is a primary document, the Church's own official record of the address. Its strength is that it is the actual text in which Pius XII drew a theological conclusion from the expanding universe cosmology of his day, not a later paraphrase. Its limit is the ordinary one for any single papal address: it is one pope's own theological reading of contemporary physics, not a scientific document and not binding Catholic doctrine.
