The first academic study to address the mass rape of Jewish women during Ukraine's 1917 to 1921 pogroms as a deliberate and strategic dimension of the violence rather than an incidental feature of it, built from survivor narratives largely unread for nearly a century. Argues the pogroms should be understood alongside a wider twentieth century pattern of gendered violence deployed as a tool of genocide.
