Der Geheimbund der Illuminaten: Darstellung, Analyse, Dokumentation

Richard van Dulmen's Der Geheimbund der Illuminaten, published by Frommann-Holzboog in 1975, is a scholarly historical study and documentary collection. Its strength is that it combines historical analysis with primary documentation of the actual Bavarian Illuminati society. Its limit is the ordinary one for a scholarly monograph on a subject that later attracted enormous popular conspiracy literature: it treats the real, historical, short-lived society, not the myth that grew up around it afterward.
