Documents of United States Indian Policy

Francis Paul Prucha's Documents of United States Indian Policy, published by the University of Nebraska Press in 1990, is an edited scholarly collection of primary government documents, treaties, statutes, executive orders and reports, spanning the history of federal Indian policy. Prucha was a leading historian of federal Indian policy, and the volume's authority rests on his selection and annotation of primary sources rather than on any original argument of his own. It gives direct access to the government's own documentary record; the tribal nations' own perspectives on the same policies need their own separate sourcing, which this atlas draws from elsewhere.
