Extra Sensory Perception is J. B. Rhine's own 1934 account of the card guessing experiments he conducted at Duke University, the book that introduced the term extrasensory perception into general use and effectively founded parapsychology as an organized field of experimental study. Its strength as a primary source is direct, it is Rhine's own description of his method, results and statistical reasoning, in his own words, rather than a secondhand summary of what he claimed to have found. Its limit is that it is the original researcher's own account of his own results, published before the extensive methodological criticism his card guessing protocols would later attract, so a claim about whether Rhine's findings actually hold up needs to be read alongside the independent statistical and methodological critiques that followed, not this book alone.
