Annu Jalais' ethnography of the Sundarbans mangrove delta straddling India and Bangladesh, published by Routledge in 2010. Jalais, an anthropologist, examines the honey collectors and woodcutters who work the tiger infested forest and the shared veneration, across Hindu and Muslim communities alike, of the forest guardian Bonbibi and her contest with the tiger demon Dakshin Rai. Its strength is direct fieldwork among the forest workers whose livelihood the Bonbibi cult protects. Its limit is a primary focus on the Indian side of the delta.
