Benny Kraut's From Reform Judaism to Ethical Culture, Hebrew Union College Press, 1979, is a scholarly study. Its strength is that it traces Felix Adler's own religious evolution from Reform Judaism to founding the Ethical Culture movement in careful, well documented detail. Its limit is the ordinary one for a single scholarly biography of one figure's intellectual development: it does not itself cover the Ethical Culture movement's later history beyond Adler's own lifetime.
