Wikipedia's article on the history of Jehovah's Witnesses, community-edited. Reliable for the founding chronology: Charles Taze Russell's Zion's Watch Tower and Herald of Christ's Presence, begun in 1879 after his split from Barbour, the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society's legal incorporation in 1884, and the formal adoption of the name "Jehovah's witnesses" at a Columbus, Ohio convention on 26 July 1931 under Rutherford, a psychological break from the wider, disaffected Bible Student movement.
