P. D. Ouspensky's In Search of the Miraculous, published in 1949, is a primary account by one of Gurdjieff's own students. Its strength is that it is the principal published record of Gurdjieff's teaching, including the nine pointed enneagram figure, set down by someone who was present for it. Its limit is that it is one student's record and interpretation, filtered through Ouspensky's own understanding, not Gurdjieff's own writing or an independent scholarly account.
