Auguste Mariette's Le Serapeum de Memphis, published by F. Vieweg in 1882, is Mariette's own nineteenth century excavation report on the Serapeum at Saqqara, the underground burial complex of the sacred Apis bulls that Mariette himself rediscovered and excavated beginning in 1850. As the excavator's own primary report it is the correct source for what was actually found and recorded at the time of discovery. Its limit is that Mariette's excavation methods and records reflect the archaeological standards of his own period, well below modern standards, so a claim resting on precise stratigraphic or dating detail needs to be checked against later re-examination of the site.
