A Legitimate Church Democracy? Legitimacy Work and Democratic Reform during the Separation of Church and State in Norway, Helge Nylenna and Stephen Sirris's 2023 peer reviewed article in the Journal of Church and State, Oxford University Press, examines the 2008 church settlement, the 2012 constitutional alterations removing the Evangelical Lutheran church as the state religion, and the Church of Norway's establishment as an independent legal entity in 2017. Its strength is that it is squarely this fact's modern disestablishment claim, peer reviewed and recent. Its limit is that a single journal article's narrower argument is supplementary to a fuller institutional or historical account of the whole disestablishment process.
