Gerardo Reichel-Dolmatoff's Los Kogi, Editorial Iqueima, 1951, is a scholarly ethnography. Its strength is that it is a foundational, fieldwork based study of the Kogi people of Colombia's Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, drawing on the anthropologist's own extended time with the community. Its limit is the ordinary one for a mid twentieth century ethnography: later Kogi scholarship, including work informed more directly by Kogi voices themselves, has extended and in places revised its account.
