Caroline Malone, Simon Stoddart, Anthony Bonanno and David Trump edited this McDonald Institute report on the excavation of the Brochtorff Circle at Xaghra, Gozo, conducted from 1987 to 1994. Its strength is that it is the excavation that established the radiocarbon chronology of the Maltese Temple Period, giving the standard dating now used for the Ggantija temples and the Hal Saflieni Hypogeum. Its limit is that it is a technical excavation report focused on one site's mortuary evidence and chronology, so a claim about the temples' religious meaning or the wider Maltese temple culture needs an interpretive source in addition to this dating evidence.
