Muslim Brotherhoods and Politics in Senegal, Lucy C. Behrman's 1970 scholarly study from Harvard University Press, is the standard academic study of both the Tijaniyya and Mouridiyya brotherhoods in Senegal, the marabout talibe relationship, the brotherhoods' reach into agriculture, trade and politics, and their coexistence with the country's Christian minority under Leopold Sedar Senghor. Its strength is that it covers both major orders together in one study, the fact's own scope. Its limit is its age, over fifty years; Ibrahim Niasse's 1975 death and the later Mouride diaspora economy postdate this book and are not claimed for it.
